Film and Broadcasting Industry Connect Program
This is the first Industry Connect program to be offered at Burnaby North. Students from around the Lower Mainland are studying Film and Broadcasting under the watchful eye of film industry veteran and long-time North teacher Phil Byrne. In addition to earning 20 credits, students will complete valuable work experience with a film or broadcasting employer here in the Lower Mainland. Successful students will be well placed to enter one of the post-secondary film and broadcasting programs offered locally. As an added bonus, students who successfully complete the program will received the $1250 District Dogwood scholarship. They just need to submit the application!
Music Production & Technology Industry Connect Program
This popular program is our second Industry Connect offered at Burnaby North. Students learn the skills associated with music production. This course is taught by Mr. Ault. As an added bonus, students who successfully complete the program will received the $1250 District Dogwood scholarship. They just need to submit the application!
Youth Work in Trades (Apprenticeships)
Our department also assists students who wish to pursue a Youth Work in Trades program. Students may begin apprenticeship training in Grade 10 and work towards attaining 16 credits by the time they complete Grade 12. Those who achieve a C+ average while on the program are eligible for a $1000 cash award if they remain employed and continue training for five months following graduation.
Is your son or daughter a “hidden apprentice”? Some students have summer jobs with family or friends that may make them eligible for Youth Work in Trades credits. Your son or daughter may have not intention of continuing with apprenticeship training after high school, however this does not prevent them receiving up to 16 Grade 11 and 12 credits. These credits can be earned in addition to a student’s regular timetable of credit courses. Please call a Career Programs advisor to see if your son or daughter may qualify for this program - 604-296-6875 Ext 5.
